The Mutability of Memories and Fates. Anna Dumitriu

 

The Mutability of Memories and Fates presents the solo exhibition by Anna Dumitriu at Alte Saline, Hallein, in Austria. The exhibition marked the first presentation of the full body of work of the same name that resulted from Dumitriu’s collaboration with the Institute of Epigenetics and Stem Cells (IES) at Helmholtz Munich.

As first artist-in-residence program at Helmholtz Munich, initiated by scientist Maria-Elena Torres-Padilla, curated by Claudia Schnugg, the residency unfolded over several years, involving multiple researchers, art-science experiments in the lab, and comprehensive artistic production taking up on diverse ideas discussed and artscience experiments realized between 2020 and 2024.

Universe Pavilion: Sheltering in Space – A Guide also printed on paper

The catalogue of the first Universe Pavilion exhibition that took place in Venice in 2025 with the patronage of ESA, Regione Veneto and the Italian Space Agency, published as an eBook, has been printed on paper too. The Universe Pavilion is envisioned as a platform that fosters a continuous dialogue across cultures and disciplines connecting to space. The project has been initiated by Claudia Kessler and Janine Thüngen-Reichenbach.

The exhibition seeks to inspire new perspectives and foster collaborations that bridge science, art, and global issues by emphasizing the profound relevance of space exploration challenges to life on Earth. At the core of the first Universe Pavilion is “Sheltering in Space – A Guide”, an exhibition curated by Claudia Schnugg, open to the public from 10 May to 31 July 2025.

Cosmological Elements

 

This catalogue presents the exhibition “Cosmological Elements”, curated by Claudia Schnugg and Iris Long, initiated by Angel An. The exhibition discusses the idea of cosmological elements through several lenses: the lens of science that questions what are the elements that constitute objects in cosmos and the space in-between, elements that can also become central to study the universe and life on planet Earth. In that sense, a selection of cosmological elements also constitutes life on Earth as we humans know it. At the same time, we look at life on Earth and search for life in outer space based on several ideas that continuously built up throughout scientific and research endeavors of cultures throughout human history. Such culturally understood cosmological elements manifest in scientific studies, but also in human dreams and stories being told.

Questa seconda edizione in lingua inglese è aggiornata e arricchita con contributi di nuovi autori. I testi sono di Pasha Ian Clothier, Nina Czegledy, Roberta Buiani, Pier Luigi Capucci, Enzo Guarnieri, Tracey M. Benson, Freddy Paul Grunert, Elena Giulia Rossi, Mario Savini, Franco Torriani, Giorgio Cipolletta. Nel 2022 era uscita la prima edizione in italiano.

Dialogues across the seas: the ocean that keeps us apart also joins us. Charting knowledge and practice in the Anthropocene

This publication is about two events on the impact of the climate crisis on the seas and the marine environments. The first one was entitled “From the Mediterranean to the Pacific. Dialogues across the seas”, and took place on July 27-28, 2018, in Cervia, a coastal city nearby Ravenna where the Po Valley ends in the northern Adriatic Sea. Cervia is located in one of the most critical areas at risk of submersion in Italy: the sea level could rise from 315 to 1535 mm by 2100. The event in Cervia was made in collaboration with “Vital Transformations”, a series of events on art and climate change taking place simultaneously in New Plymouth, New Zealand. This collaboration set up an ideal bridge across two remote maritime venues – Cervia and New Plymouth – geographically located at almost the opposite sides on Earth but interested and linked by a common issue, the rising of the sea level: the climate emergency is both a local and global issue.
